"The Bearskin" is a chilling folktale collected by the Brothers Grimm in 1812, and found in many version throughout Europe.

In a variation on the medieval story of Faust, the story tells of an aging soldier who bets his own soul in a bargain with the devil.

The condition of the wager is that the soldier must travel the world without washing his body or clothes for seven years, draped in the skin of bear.

The Grimm's' tale is framed in romantic imagery, and Tom Lee's retelling reveals the underlying powerful metaphors of the human condition.

The program is approximately 45 minutes in length, and may be coupled with other stories for an evening-length program.
